About the Series
If you want to have an awesome WordPress site, this class will help you get there. WordPress is the most popular publishing platform - in fact, over 20% of new domains registered are running their sites on WordPress.
Musicians, photographers, creatives, magazine, nonprofits, and small business owners are all running their sites on WordPress - and you can too.
After this class is done, you'll have your very own kick @$$ WordPress site, hosted on WordPress.com. We will also review how to setup WordPress on your own host, install plugins to extend its functionality, embed video, and setup photo galleries to display your work.
Here's a quick overview of the class syllabus
- Review the ecosystem of WordPress
- Review comparable solutions
- Setup a working site on WordPress.com
- Add photos and video to your About Page
- Build Contact Page
- Build Portfolio Page
- Edit sidebars
- Edit Menus
- Review next steps to launch your site
Every class will offer students an opportunity to show work in progress and get class feedback.
Requirements for all classes :
- Please setup an account with WordPress.com before class starts. Even if you already have a WordPress site setup, please also make sure you create an account with WordPress.com.
- Please bring your own computer with wifi ready to go.

Session 3 Customizing your WordPress site
You've got your hosting. You've got your content. Now it's time to start adjusting how your site looks. During this session, we'll look at some popular themes, and discuss the difference between customizing a theme, and creating a whole new design. You'll also get a chance to show your work in progress and get feedback from the class and instructor.
In addition to theming, we'll also review some popular plugins and start the process of configuring them.
=====
What this series is not :
It is not intended to be a general computer class. Please be comfortable using your computer, and moving files around. If you can type emails and send attachments, you'll be in good shape.
Also - because it's a group setting, we might not be able to address particular issues with themes and hosting settings. While we'll be customizing pre-built themes, we won't be creating a theme from scratch.
If you are looking for a more customized or individual approach, an individual one-on-one session might be better suited for you.
So enough about what this class is not. What this class is? An opportunity for you to kickstart your site's progress and get your WordPress site launch ready.
